"The Wreck of the Titanic: Details on the Mid-Ocean Excursion and the Incident resulting in the Explosion of the Titan Submarine"
The Titanic is known as the most famous ship in the world and crashed into an iceberg in 1912 and sank into the depths of the North Atlantic Ocean. Although more than 1500 people lost their lives in this tragic event, the mystery of the Titanic still remains unsolved. The ship, which can be visited by tourists even today, draws attention with its location at 3800 meters of the ocean.
But one of the last visits has brought death to the Titanic again. The Titan submarine, which was used during the Titanic voyage, experienced an explosion in the depths of the ocean and unfortunately 5 people lost their lives. The debris was unearthed on 28 June. So, how did this event come about and what has the world heard about this tragic event?
I will describe in detail all the developments that took place in the middle of the ocean and all the developments until the explosion of the Titan submarine.
"Submarine Wreck Was Brought to Canada and Met Horizon Arctic Ship in St John's City"
The submarine's wreckage was moved to rendezvous with the Horizon Arctic ship in St John's, Canada. Much of the wreckage was hidden by tarps. The US Coast Guard announced that the submarine's landing gear and tailgate were also found in the wreckage. The wreckage of the submarine was meticulously preserved and brought to Canada.
"Human Remains Detected in Submarine Wreck, Will Be Sent to the USA for Investigation"
Along with the wreck of the submarine, some fragments thought to be human remains were also found. These remains will be sent to the USA for further analysis and testing. Examination of human remains is an important step to further elucidate the event and to identify the persons involved.
"Titanic's Last Voyage: The Discovery of the Submarine and What Happened"
The story about the Titan submarine belonging to the OceanGate company and the 5 people in it started on June 16, 2023. Carried by the MV Polar Prince research vessel, Titan was brought to the dive site and arrived at the dive site on 17 June. The dive started at 09:30 on 18 June (ND) local time.
During the first 90 minutes of the dive, Titan was in contact with the Polar Prince ship every 15 minutes. However, communication was interrupted after 2 hours and 15 minutes. As planned, Titan was expected to surface at 16.30.
The dive site was 740 kilometers off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada. The Polar Prince reported missing to the US Coast Guard at 7:10 p.m.
The first known details were that the 5 people on the submarine had an air supply of up to 96 hours. However, the situation of the passengers and the pilot of the submarine was still unclear. The US Coast Guard continued its search and rescue efforts with Canadian Coast Guard units.
Work progressed slowly due to limited deep-water search and rescue capabilities of both countries and challenges such as distance, weather conditions, water temperature and sea conditions.
However, a civilian ship rushed to help. On 20 June, the Deep Energy vessel used to lay the cables and pipes arrived in the area. There were two remotely controllable watercraft and other seafloor equipment on board.
A voice of despair was heard! On 20 June, Canadian planes reported hearing crashes underwater during search and rescue operations. However, these hopes were soon dashed. The US Coast Guard explained that the source of the sound was unclear during the investigations and that it may have been caused by metal piles at the point where the Titanic wreckage was found.
More ships came to help. On 21 June, Canadian ship CCGS John Cabot arrived in the area with sonar capabilities, along with merchant ships Skandi Vinland and Atlantic Merlin. In total, 5 aircraft and sea vehicles participated in the active search efforts, and 5 different vehicles were expected to arrive in the area within 24-48 hours.
A spokesperson for the US Coast Guard described the work as a "complete search and rescue mission" to keep hope alive. However, on June 21, a result was still not achieved.
Finally, a vehicle was lowered to the ocean floor. On 22 June, a remotely controlled sea vehicle was launched for the first time as part of the studies. The search for the submarine began with the "Odysseus 6k" vehicle unloaded from Canada's Horizon Arctic vessel and the "Victor 6000" underwater vehicle unloaded from France's L'Atalante vessel.
And finally, the work paid off. However, the situation was dire. The US Coast Guard has detected a wreck near the Titanic. The Odysseus 6k vehicle found the wreck within the fifth hour of its search. In the statement made at the press conference, it was stated that the vehicle exploded violently with the loss of pressure inside and 5 people died at the time of the incident.
Rear Admiral John Mauger said at the press conference that the explosion of the vehicle occurred before the search and rescue efforts and that He stated that there was a violent explosion with the loss of pressure. He also stated that there are big question marks about the physical structure and durability of the submarine.
Among those killed on the Titanic voyage are OceanGate founder and Titan's pilot Stockton Rush, ex-French Navy commander Paul-Henri Nargeolet, who has dived more than 35 times aboard the Titanic, landed in the Mariana Trench and launched into space on Blue Origin's NS-21 mission. British businessman Hamish Harding, Pakistani-British businessman and founder of Dawood Hercules Corporation, Shahzada Dawood, and his son Suleman Dawood.
